Dr. Sam Spearing
Dr. Spearing earned his B.Sc. in Mining Engineering in 1978 and his M.Sc. in Civil Engineering in 1989 from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. In 1993 he earned his Ph.D. from the Technical University of Silesia, Poland. His core area of research is mine design, safety, ground control and backfilling in underground hard and soft rock mines. He also has expertise in developing innovative support products where he holds seven patents and has over thirty years of industry experience. He is currently the Director at Western Australia School of Mines, which consists of Departments of Applied Geology, Spatial Sciences, Exploration Geophysics, Mining Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering.
