Professional Mentoring Program
Mission statement
The Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) College of Engineering’s (COE) Professional Mentoring Program aims to facilitate the professional development of students by providing a connection to SIUC COE graduates that are currently engaged in the engineering profession and can provide valuable guidance, counsel and networking opportunities.
Program Objectives
- Provide students with meaningful and useful career guidance
- Facilitate a bridge between academia and industry for student participants
- Increase the student’s career network by providing an avenue to communicate with SIUC engineering graduates currently engaged in the engineering profession.

Above all, mentoring is about listening without judgment and questioning with respect. Though a mentor may be a role model, at true mentor does not ask another person to “be like me.” A mentor says, “I will help you be whoever you wish to be.” Read more...
