Dir: Dr. Arash Asrari

The Power Systems Design Laboratory’s current research concentrations are (1) power systems operation and planning, (2) power systems protection, (3) power systems optimization, (4) renewable energy systems integration, (5) electricity markets analysis, (6) power systems security, (7) power systems reliability, and (8) smart grid.

Dr. Asrari received the grant of $6,000 from "SIU Green Fund" in 2019 to experimentally implement and validate a hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) in the Power Systems Design Lab. The title of the project was "Clean Electric Energy from Hybrid Renewable Energy System – Phase I: Proof of Concept".

He also received the grant of $5,500 from "SIU Green Fund" in 2020 to experimentally scrutinize the impacts of false data injection cyberattacks on the wind/solar microgrid located in the Power Systems Design Lab. The title of the project was "Clean Electric Energy from Hybrid Renewable Energy System –Phase II: Smart Grid & Cybersecurity".

He also received the grant of $6,000 from "SIU Green Fund" in 2022 to experimentally prevent the impacts of false data injection cyberattacks on the wind/solar microgrid located in the Power Systems Design Lab. The title of the project was "Clean Electric Energy from Hybrid Renewable Energy System –Phase III: How to Prevent Power Outage of a Solar/Wind Lab-scale Microgrid Targeted by Cyberattacks".
