Admission

Candidates for this program must be accepted by the Graduate School and the Department of Technology. Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree with a major in a technical area and a GPA of no less than 3.0/4.0. A student whose undergraduate training is deficient may be required to take additional courses to compensate for deficiencies identified by the Technology Graduate Program Committee. 

Graduate School Admissions

Domestic Students

Candidates for this program must be accepted by the Graduate School and the Department of Technology. Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree with a major in a technical area and a GPA of no less than 3.0/4.0. Conditional admission is possible for candidates with a lower GPA. A student whose undergraduate training is deficient may be required to take additional courses to compensate for deficiencies identified by the Technology Graduate Program Committee.
 The following documents are required for admission:

  1. Application for Admission to the Graduate School.  The Application for Admission to Graduate School is available on-line at:

    You may request a paper copy of the application for admission if you do not have access to a computer. 
  2. Transcripts.  You must submit transcripts from each college or university you have attended in the past.  However, if you have sent transcripts to SIUC in the past, and have not attended any college or university since that time, you do NOT need to request transcripts a second time.
  3. Letters of recommendation.  Please submit 3 letters of recommendation from your former professors or employers who are familiar with your work.
  4. Personal Statement indicating applicant’s rationale for selected major field of study; relationship between proposed major and future plans; and description of academic preparation and research interest.

International Students

Students seeking admission to the graduate program in Manufacturing Systems must meet admission standards set by the Graduate School and have a bachelor's degree with a major in a technical area and a GPA of no less than 3.0/4.0.  Conditional admission is possible for candidates with a lower GPA.  A student whose undergraduate training is deficient may be required to take additional non-graduate level courses to compensate for deficiencies identified by the Technology Graduate Program Committee.  
The following documents are required for admission:

  1. Application for Admission to the Graduate School.  The Application for Admission to Graduate School is available on-line at:

    You may request a paper copy of the application for admission if you do not have access to a computer. 
  2. Application fee.  A non-refundable application fee of $65.00 must be submitted with the application.  Money orders are preferred from foreign countries.  Check or money order should be made payable to "Southern Illinois University Carbondale" in US dollars. Failure to include the application fee will delay the application process.
  3. Official transcripts.  There are guidelines for transcripts for international students that are specific to the country in which you attended school.  It is important that these guidelines are followed when you request your transcript so that no time is wasted in the application process.
  4. TOEFL score results.  The Graduate School requires official TOEFL scores sent from ETS.  Your application cannot be without this information.  Additional information regarding TOEFL requirements can be found at:

  5. Copy of passport.  Please submit a photocopy of the passport page that lists your name, date of birth, and country of citizenship. The spelling of your name on the I-20 and passport must match exactly.
  6. Letters of recommendation.  Three (3) letters of recommendation are required.
  7. Personal Statement indicating applicant’s rationale for selected major field of study; relationship between proposed major and future plans; and description of academic preparation and research interest.
  8. Financial Information Sheet / Financial Statement for Graduate International Students.  Your admission is based on your academic achievement (grade point average), as well as your ability to meet your financial obligations at SIUC.

Your application cannot be processed without this documentation.  All of the above documents, with the exception of TOEFL scores, should be sent directly to the Department of Technology, 1230 Lincoln Drive, Mail Code 6603, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Carbondale, Illinois 62901.
