Online Quality Engineering and Management

The College of Engineering, Computing, Technology, and Mathematics offers a Master of Science degree in Quality Engineering and Management (QEM) that can be completed online. The objective of our online QEM program is to develop quality engineering and management professionals who can plan, coordinate, design, implement, and control the quality function in manufacturing and service companies in order to increase productivity, optimize resources, decrease waste, and improve product quality.

Course offerings and research opportunities are available in the areas of quality assurance, Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, project management, and reliability. For students with baccalaureate degrees in technology, engineering technology, or engineering, the program provides advanced education in quality and management systems. For individuals with technical degrees, the program provides an excellent continuing education opportunity.

Candidates for this program must be accepted by the Graduate School and the Department of Technology. The online M.S. in Quality Engineering and Management program requires a bachelor’s degree with a major in a technical area and a GPA of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Conditional admission is possible for candidates with a lower GPA.

The online M.S. in QEM program offers courses during the fall and spring semesters that are sixteen weeks in length. All courses are delivered asynchronously through the University’s learning management system, Desire2Learn (D2L).


Completion of the online M.S. in QEM degree requires a minimum of 30 graduate semester hours. Prerequisite coursework may be required of applicants possessing non-technical degrees.

The cost for the online M.S. in Quality Engineering and Management degree is determined by SIU’s Off-Campus tuition and fee structure. The online M.S. in QEM provides excellent preparation for graduates who pursue careers in technical disciplines such as lean manufacturing, project management, Six Sigma, and reliability.
