Research Opportunities

At SIU you are in select company as an undergraduate when it comes to research opportunities.  With a consistent ranking as a top 100 public research university we are among the top 5 percent of research institutions in the United States.

Various internal funding programs help MAME faculty establish research programs, fund graduate and undergraduate assistantships, win external grants, and travel to conferences.REACH (Research-Enriched Academic Challenge), our undergraduate research program, offers small grants and other opportunities for undergraduates to gain research expertise by working alongside faculty mentors.

The Office of Sponsored Projects Administration provides grant-related services to faculty and students and has many online resources. Undergraduates also can apply directly to certain government or nonprofit agency programs for research grants and off-campus summer research fellowships. Most of these competitive programs are discipline-specific, and the success rate can be high. Faculty in your program may be aware of such opportunities, or contact the Office of Sponsored Projects Administration. Another good source of information about research scholarships and fellowships is the Office of Major Scholarship Advisement. Talk to your advisor and to faculty in your program about getting involved with research.
