About 400 colleges and universities offer at least one engineering degree, but not all engineering programs are ranked by U.S. News and World Report, which rates us among national universities with Ph.D. programs. To be included on U.S. News’ lists of the best programs speaks highly of what we offer our students.

Among public universities in the state of Illinois, our graduate programs rank:

  • No. 3 in computer engineering
  • No. 3 in civil engineering
  • No. 3 in electrical/electronic/communications engineering
  • No. 3 in mechanical engineering
  • No. 3 in computer science
  • No. 4 in mathematics

On the national level, our graduate programs rank:

  • No. 84 among public universities (and 122 overall) in computer engineering
  • No. 98 among public universities (and 132 overall) in civil engineering
  • No. 113 among public universities (and 159 overall) in electrical/electronic/communications engineering
  • No. 122 among public universities (and 173 overall) in mathematics
  • No. 123 among public universities (and 173 overall) in mechanical engineering
  • No. 128 among public universities (and 176 overall) in computer science
